What a strange week. Most of the world is currently figuring out what’s happening, whether is the pandemic, the Election in the U.S, Climate Change, and more. it’s making us wondering what the future holds.
If your stress levels are high, you are not alone but times of chaos are paradoxically a great opportunity to pause and reflect.
At The New Gazette, I try to share brands or people doing good things on the internet as an example of the topic I’m writing about, this week would be no different but this one will be shorter as there too much to handle now.
Today, I want to talk about purpose—why is important and how to find it.
When you have a clear path of where to go, it doesn’t matter what is happening in your environment you know which way to pursue to get closer to achieving your goal.
For an organization and a person, a clear purpose is everything. Finding it makes it easier to be more aware of the type of work needed to be done.
If you are going through a difficult time in your life, allow yourself to be supported by others. Find meaning, gratitude, and purpose in the way that others love and support you in your life.
The way to find purpose in your personal life and in a company is similar
First, you need to Turn to your values, as they can be the guiding principle of everything you do;
Second, Think about the things that matter; take note of what is more important to you and then try to keep them safe, you begin to lose sight of the things that are bad for you.
and third, you need to ask yourself how you want to be perceived, this leads to the common saying of If you were going to die a year from today, how would you want to be remembered? This kind of thinking can help you delete all of the decisions that seemed good in the short term but not in the bigger picture.
Some amazing people, I believe had an amazing purpose are:
Steve Jobs
Mahatma Gandhi
Mother Teresa
Buddha
As they had a lifestyle focused on achieving their purpose, it looked weird for some but for them, it looked okay.
As well, some companies can be used as an example of having a purpose:
Big Companies
Apple; their purpose is to “bring the best user experience to its customers through its innovative hardware, software, and services”, They are doing it by creating and working on high-quality products that are easy to use and can provide a connection to the internet.
Nike, their purpose is to “bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world”, They are doing it by designing incredible footwear and clothing to help expand human potential.
Medium and small size Companies
Stripe, their purpose is to “grow the GDP of the internet”, they are doing it by providing an infrastructure for payments and more services.
Allbirds, to “create better things in a better way” which lead to a new category of shoes inspired by natural materials
Visualize Value, their purpose is to “clarify and codify your value proposition”, They are doing it with their courses and community of creators.
These are examples of a declaration of how to explain purpose but I use every single company above as an example as every single decision these companies do is related to getting closer to achieve it. They have, as a team, an obsession to work towards building a better future with their projects.
Thousands of more companies and people have these types of declarations but there are just a few who truly believe it, and work with that in mind.
As a simple follower of these brands and Individuals, I know these because not just they tell it to look better in the public eye but they worked really hard to help others with purpose.
If your own personal values are unclear or not identified, it will be difficult to plan and effectively create or achieve the life you want. You will be purposeless.
When you’re running on autopilot and not allowing your values to coincide with your choices, you can find yourself becoming incredibly unhappy, and feeling lost but if you find what your true purpose in life is, you will be unstoppable.
Let me know any example you can think of by replying to this email
Until next week,
Jose
